From the South (New York and Connecticut):
From Interstate Route 95 take exit 3A in Rhode Island. This is Route 138. Follow Route 138 to Newport. The road twists and turns so follow the signs carefully. You'll go over two very large bridges. Once over the second bridge, take the first exit. Follow the signs to the Newport Gateway Visitors Center. At the intersection where the Visitors Center is, take a left onto West Marlborough Street. Also at this corner there is a fire station and a small baseball stadium (Cardines Field). At the first stop sign, take a right onto Thames Street. At the first traffic light, take a left onto Touro Street. On your left is Eisenhower Park, and on your right you'll pass two movie theaters. Take a right onto Clarke Street just after the second movie theatre. The Melville House is at the end of this one-way, one block road on the right hand side. Park in the back.
From the North (Boston and Cape Cod):
From downtown Boston, take Interstate route 93 south to Route 24 south. Route 24 crosses from Massachusetts into Rhode Island. Follow Route 24 to the end of route 24, and then continue onto Route 114. Follow Route 114 through Portsmouth and Middletown into Newport. Once in Newport, Route 114 becomes Broadway. Follow Broadway to Washington Square. On your left is Eisenhower Park. Get over into the left-hand lane and go completely around the park. You'll pass two movie theaters on your right. Take a right onto Clarke Street just after the second movie theatre. The Melville House is at the end of this one-way, one block road on the right hand side. Park in the back.
From Providence and Providence's T.F. Green Airport:
